How Uncontrolled Sexual Desires Cause Leadership Downfalls

How Uncontrolled Sexual Desires Cause Leadership DownfallsHere we go again! Another powerful, respected figure in our community is involved in a sexually-related scandal. Unless you’ve been under a rock the last couple of weeks, you’ve heard all the ruckus about Bishop Eddie Long and his alleged sexual relationships with young men in his congregation, New Birth, here in Atlanta. Not only are these young men saying that they were involved with Bishop Long sexually, they are adamant in professing that he used his power as a leader to manipulate the situation even more. How sad!

In his book, Think and Grow Rich, Napleon Hill says that one of the key factors that lead to failure is the lack of ability to control your sexual urges. Don’t get me wrong, I love sex and don’t think that there is anything wrong with having it, but there is a time and place for everything. Certainly, having sexual relations with members of your congregation when you are a married man is not the right thing to do in ANY situation.

Leadership is a funny thing. It’s hard to get there and even harder to stay on top. In order to be a good leader, you must set good examples so that your followers  or team members can see that you are genuine. To be a great leader, you must engage your followers or team to find out what they are searching for and how you can assist them in reaching their goals.

In religion, as in business, you lead by example. To show others how to be a successful leader, you must not only possess those same qualities, but allow them to shine through and showcase you and what you’re about.

Unfortunately, leaders sometimes succumb to their own weaknesses and lose sight of how the power they possess can be used to manipulate and harm others. For this very reason, you must be on guard at all times to keep your weaknesses in check so that your greatness can come through and be copied by others.

Lack of control of your sexual desires is simply a sign of weakness and if left uncontrolled, will surely lead to the downfall of your leadership era.

However, you can learn to be a better leader by learning how to engage others and empower those around you to make themselves better. On October 15, 2010, three Atlanta women business owners will present Taking Back Your Power: A symposium for savvy business owners. In this half-day symposium you will be re-energized as a business leader and learn skills that will help you develop into a more powerful leader who inspires those around you. You will also learn how to tap into the energy of success and lead through inspiration and motivation.

Don’t delay, register today and learn the skills and strategies that you need to become an effective, powerful leader who knows how to keep their weaknesses in check and how to empower others towards greatness.
